St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, southeast of Austin, is conceived as a replicable prototype—designed to support congregations as they take root and grow into permanent homes. Though the building is temporary, the landscape grounds it through drifts of native grasses, trees, and a small churchyard garden, establishing a framework for a future central plaza.
Set at the meeting of coastal prairie and oak savannah, the landscape unfolds in flowing bands of native grasses and a remnant orchard of Mexican Plum trees that frame the approach. Over time, a grove of Live Oaks and Sycamores will form a shaded canopy for outdoor services and gatherings, creating a lasting center for future growth.
